With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.

Role Description:
As a technical manager and design leader, you will work on high-profile civil engineering designs and assessments in the field of coastal and maritime infrastructure. Arcadis operates with multidisciplinary teams on coastal and infrastructure projects both domestically and internationally, and we are continuing to grow in this field. For our Coastal & Maritime Infrastructure (WMI) advisory group, we are therefore looking for a technical manager/design leader specializing in coastal engineering structures. We are seeking a skilled, proactive, creative, and driven professional who is eager to help shape our ambitions in the field of coastal and maritime infrastructure.

Role Accountabilities:
As a technical manager/design leader, you will oversee the process of developing civil engineering designs and ensure their integration by managing and controlling the interfaces between various disciplines. You will also be responsible for assessing the condition of quay walls, locks, bridges, pumping stations, culverts, and flood defenses. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary project team comprising civil and mechanical engineering designers, adhering to applicable standards, guidelines, and assessment and design tools within the Water Act. Furthermore, you will lead the design process, assessments, or advisory efforts and be able to practically implement project information management using Systems Engineering (SE) and Building Information Modeling (BIM).

You will work with various clients across the sector, both public and private, on projects for contractors as well as clients. You will also contribute significantly to our growing number of international projects.

A few high-profile projects your team – the Coastal and Maritime Infrastructure Advisory Group – has worked on include:

  • Renovation of the Afsluitdijk
  • Bridges and quay wall projects in Amsterdam
  • Renovation of Krammer Lock
  • Resilient Battery Park City in New York
  • Fraser River Tunnel in Canada

The Coastal and Maritime Infrastructure Advisory Group:
As a technical manager/design leader, you will be part of the Coastal & Maritime Infrastructure advisory group and, therefore, part of a broad network within Arcadis. We are an enthusiastic team of young and energetic colleagues working alongside highly experienced senior advisors, designers, and project managers. We have an open and cooperative work culture and continuously support one another to grow and enjoy our work both during and outside working hours. You will collaborate with designers, structural engineers, and geotechnical advisors in wet and dry infrastructure and be part of the broader national and international Arcadis network. This provides ample opportunities to develop your expertise and contribute to complex and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.

Qualifications & Experience:
We are looking for a colleague who meets the following requirements:

  • Completed higher education in civil engineering
  • At least 7 years experience as a designer, junior design leader, or technical manager in a similar environment, preferably on both the client and contractor sides
  • Affinity with coastal engineering structures such as quay walls, jetties, locks, pumping stations, etc.
  • (Basic) knowledge of structural engineering and insight into its execution (geotechnics/concrete/steel)
  • Knowledge of and experience with SE, RAW and UAV-GC contracts
  • Experience with BIM
  • Experience with RAMS/reliability studies is a plus
  • Application of the WBI and guidelines for the assessment and design of structures in water barriers is a plus
