Software Architect

At Nearfield Instruments (NFI) we’re looking for a Software Architect to join our team. This full‑time position is based in Rotterdam.

Nearfield Instruments is a fast‑growing scale‑up high‑tech company that designs, develops, integrates, markets and services advanced metrology machines. Our machines enable the world’s leading chipmakers to increase production yields and improve microchip functionality, leading to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics. Founded in 2016, we bring together about 320 employees to develop a one‑of‑a‑kind, revolutionary high‑throughput Scanning Probe Microscopy system.

Within our Design & Engineering department this role is part of the Software Group, which consists of the teams Architectural, Machine Control, Device Control, Data Science, Integration & Support. Your focus will be in the Machine Control team, where you develop software that sends control commands to our machines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain specialist knowledge on a defined topic.
  • Understand Agile/Scrum well, facilitate the PO and release manager, and help them plan work for the release.
  • Collect requirements from Product Owners and translate product requirements to software‑level requirements.
  • Design high‑level architecture and module/component designs to meet software and product requirements.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues involving software development, engineering tasks and product releases.

What we’re looking for

  • Education: Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Affinity with the high‑tech sector; knowledge of precision equipment manufacturing is a plus.
  • Over 10 years of experience in software development using C#.
  • Over 5 years of experience in software system design and architecture.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Git, JIRA and PlantUML.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to split work into several development phases and communicate clearly with developers.
  • Coaching ability; as a technical advisor, you ensure the team remains up‑to‑date with relevant knowledge.
  • Ensuring the technical quality of designs.
