Head of IT

We’re partnering with a leading global retail business in the midst of a major IT and business transformation to appoint a Head of IT based in Rotterdam. This pivotal leadership role will drive the strategic direction, delivery, and operational performance of all IT functions across the region, with a focus on technology innovation, infrastructure, enterprise platforms, and digital enablement.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior IT leader to shape and modernise the technology landscape of a complex, fast-paced multinational environment, without direct responsibility for IT service management.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead the end-to-end delivery of IT strategy across infrastructure, applications, digital, and data platforms in alignment with business goals
• Oversee large-scale IT transformation programmes including cloud migration, systems integration, and technology modernisation
• Manage IT operations across corporate, retail, logistics, and digital environments, ensuring scalability, resilience, and efficiency
• Collaborate with business stakeholders and senior leadership to prioritise technology initiatives and drive innovation
• Drive data and analytics capability to support business intelligence and strategic decision-making
• Govern IT security, risk management, business continuity, and compliance in line with global standards and local regulatory requirements
• Lead cross-functional and geographically distributed IT teams, promoting a culture of accountability, agility, and high performance
• Manage relationships with technology vendors, partners, and external providers to ensure delivery of value and service excellence
• Define and manage IT budgets, track performance, and deliver on cost-efficiency goals

Candidate profile:

• 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, including 5+ years at a senior management level
• Proven track record in delivering IT transformation and innovation within complex, multinational environments
• Strong expertise in infrastructure, cloud services (Azure or AWS), enterprise platforms, and business systems
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
• Strong vendor management and contract negotiation experience
• Familiarity with retail or consumer-focused sectors is a plus
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
